Europol Shuts Down 373,000 Dark Web Sites in Largest Cybercrime Operation

"Europol shuts down 373,000 dark web sites in the largest cybercrime operation, revealing that a single individual was behind a massive digital fraud network."

In a massive international operation led by Europol in collaboration with 23 countries, including France, over 373,000 dark web sites were taken down in “Operation Alice,” targeting child exploitation and illegal online content.

The shocking revelation: a single individual was behind this vast network, operating more than 287 servers simultaneously, scamming clients via cryptocurrency payments, and collecting over €345,000 from around 10,000 people worldwide.

Key Results of the Operation:

  • 373,000 dark web sites shut down.
  • 105 servers seized along with numerous electronic devices.
  • 440 suspected clients identified, with investigations ongoing.
  • International cooperation helped trace Bitcoin transactions and uncover the fraudulent network.
  • Help4U platform launched to support children affected by online abuse, available in French.

Significance of the Operation:

  • Demonstrates the power of international collaboration in fighting cybercrime.
  • Reinforces that the dark web is not a safe haven for criminals.
  • Raises awareness about the risks of paying for illegal content, even if it turns out to be a scam.

Operation Alice proves that cybercrime requires global cooperation between law enforcement and the judiciary to secure the internet and protect children.
