Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Fold 7: The Thinnest and Lightest Foldable Phone Yet

Samsung has officially announced the new generation of its foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, marking a significant leap in foldable device design. It is now the thinnest and lightest device in this category to date, with major improvements in performance, display, camera, and AI capabilities—although some features like S Pen support have been sacrificed.

Sleek Design and Premium Specifications

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 leads its category in terms of thinness and weight, measuring just 8.9 mm thick when folded and weighing only 215 grams, making it more practical for everyday use compared to previous versions.

Improved and More Functional Displays

The phone features two enhanced screens in terms of size and resolution:

  • Outer display: 6.5 inches with a resolution of 2520×1080 pixels, up from 6.3 inches.
  • Main (inner) display: Expands to 8 inches with a resolution of 2184×1968 pixels, and now features a 10MP punch-hole front camera instead of an under-display camera.

Enhanced Durability and Build Quality

The device is equipped with a new Armor Flex Hinge, alongside Ultra Thin Glass and a Titanium Lattice structure, giving it greater strength and durability. It also carries an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance.

Pro-Grade Camera System

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 features an advanced imaging system that includes:

  • Main camera: 200MP (f/1.7)
  • Ultra-wide lens: 12MP
  • 3× optical zoom telephoto lens: 10MP

It also supports up to 30× digital zoom.

Powerful AI-Powered Performance

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, the device includes 12GB of RAM and storage options starting from 256GB up to 1TB.

It runs on Android 16 with the One UI 8 interface, which incorporates AI features such as:

  • Instant Audio Eraser to remove background noise from recordings
  • Smart side photo editing tools
  • Gemini Pop-up assistant for multitasking

Long-Lasting Battery

The phone comes with a 4400mAh battery, supporting 25W fast charging, and offers up to 40.5 hours of video playback according to EPREL data. It retains 80% of battery capacity even after 2000 charging cycles.

Smart Trade-Offs for a Slimmer Design

Despite the positive reception, Samsung has made some compromises to achieve the slimmer, more practical design—most notably dropping S Pen support and eliminating the under-display camera (UDC).

Pricing and Availability

  • Global price: Starts at $1999 / £1799 / €2099
  • Availability: Pre-orders are open now, with official release set for July 25, 2025

In conclusion, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 represents a bold step forward by Samsung in refining the foldable smartphone experience, emphasizing elegance, performance, and efficiency. While it comes with a few trade-offs, it sets a new benchmark for what to expect from this premium category.
