Meta has announced that starting July 10, 2025, Instagram will begin displaying photos and videos from public accounts in search engine results such as Google and Bing, unless users opt out.
What Will Change?
Photos and videos from all public accounts will be indexable by search engines. This change applies to all accounts, not just business accounts or recent posts.
How to Protect Your Privacy?
To prevent your posts from appearing in search results:
1. When you receive a notification from Instagram, choose "Do not allow" for indexing your posts.
2. Alternatively, go to your app settings:
> Settings → Privacy → Account Content → Disable the option "Allow search engines to show my posts."
You can also switch your account to private to prevent anyone who isn't a follower from viewing your content.
Why Is This Change Important?
It directly impacts user privacy.
It may cause personal or old content to appear on search engines without the user's knowledge.
It allows Instagram users to gain wider visibility for their content if they choose to do so.
